When Public Figures Forget Funeral Etiquette: The Tyler Perry and Monique Controversy
When celebrities clash at a funeral, who gets hurt the most? Welcome to this week’s Indie Artist Music Hustle with Blonde Intelligence. I’m your host Ms. Roni, where I always seek to give you exquisite cranial repertoire. The recent passing of R&B legend Angie Stone should have been a moment for unified grief and celebration of her artistic legacy. Instead, it became the backdrop for yet another chapter in the ongoing Tyler Perry and Monique saga that has left many fans questioning what happened to basic funeral etiquette.
Tyler Perry's decision to highlight Angie's disputes with Universal Music Group over royalty theft during her memorial service struck a discordant note in what should have been a harmonious tribute. While advocating for justice has its place, a funeral represents sacred ground where the focus belongs squarely on honoring the departed. Rather than sharing meaningful stories about Angie's musical contributions or personal character—like her powerful impact during a performance in Pine Bluff that reportedly coincided with a rare day of peace—Perry veered into territory many found inappropriate for the occasion.
Not to be outdone, Monique took to social media to voice her dissatisfaction with Tyler's behavior while simultaneously reigniting their personal feud. Though she offered praise for Angie's talent, her timing and platform choice further complicated an already delicate situation. Both figures' actions serve as a sobering reminder of the responsibility public figures carry, especially during moments of collective mourning. Their conduct raises important questions about the boundaries between personal vendettas and public respect, particularly when a community is processing grief.

Speaker 2:Music, music, music, music, music Music. Welcome to this week's Indie Artist, music Hustle with Blonde Intelligence. I'm your host, ms Ronnie, where I always seek to give you exquisite cranium repertoire. This week I had several things that I wanted to talk about, things that I wanted to talk about, but for me, the most pressing thing I think is of importance was the I would say the outburst between Tyler Perry and Monique, and although they were not in the same ways, I feel like both of their conducts were inappropriate, but I'm going to get into it.
Speaker 2:The recent passing of R b singer angie stone has sparked a significant conversation about the conduct public figures during moments of mourning at angie's funeral. Tyler perry's decision to mention her ongoing disputes with universal music group concerning alleged royalty theft has raised eyebrows. While his intention may have been to highlight the struggles Angie faced in her career, this choice seemed inappropriate for such a sacred occasion. Funerals serve as a space for reflection and remembrance, where the focus should be on honoring the deceased rather than delving into contentious issues. For example, a more fitting tribute from Perry to have included information and stories about Angie's contribution to R&B music, celebrating her artistic legacy rather than her professional challenges, such as my most memorable story of Angie Stone was when she came to Pine Bluff a few years ago. I cannot remember the name of the event, but she came in Pine Bluff. If anybody know anything about Pine Bluff is known for its violence and its killing and not to say anything against Pine Bluff because I live here and I like living here. But if you google it it would say one of the worst little towns in America. But the day that Angie Stone came there was no violence in the city at all. So I think that it's moments like that that contribute to a person's memory, and I feel like the way that they acted to me was very out of place. So let me get into the Monique part Now.
Speaker 2:During the same time, monique did not agree with Tyler's sentiments for Angie when she felt that he had treated her poorly and decided to hop her ass on social media. Monique's confrontation with Tyler Perry further complicated an already delicate situation. Their longstanding feud is well known and bringing it to the forefront during Angie's memorial detracted from its purpose of the gathering, which was to honor the life and legacy of Angie Stone. Funerals should allow the grieving process to take precedence, create an environment where attendees can honor the deceased without the weight of personal conflicts overshadowing the moment. Now, although Angie did get on social media and say something about this issue before her death, I just don't feel like it was in Tyler's place to bring it up at her funeral. I feel like that was her family's place to act. Where's the money? Not Tyler's place to bring it up at her funeral. I feel like that was her family's place to act. Where's the money? Not Tyler's? You agreed to pay for the funeral. Leave it at that. Say some wonderful words about the lady and stay out of her personal business, because I believe that if she was alive, she probably would have told you to stay out of her personal business like that. So, instead of addressing her and Tyler's dispute dispute, monique could have chosen to express admiration for angie's talent and influence to the industry, only because she did say that you know, give some good words and said that she agreed with what tyler said about uh uh, angie. But then she went into but this? I feel like Monique could have chosen to express admiration and contribute positively to the atmosphere of remembering her, and that she should have picked another day and another time.
Speaker 2:To me, both Tyler Perry and Monique's actions underscore the essential need for decorum during sensitification. Their choices serves as a reminder that personal grievances should be set aside. Particularly in the context of mourning, the focus should remain on the individual being honored, in this case Andy Stone stone, whose life and legacy deserve celebration. Instead of straying into personal conflict, public figures should model the respect and reverence that such occasions demand. By doing so, they not only honor the memory of the deceased, but also provide comfort to those who are grieving now. I don't know if I spoke about this, but I remember when Megan and Nikki were beefy and Nikki just went all out the way to try to inflict emotional pain on Megan by talking about her deceased mother. I think people kind of like slap Nikki on the hands. But I believe it's becoming more and more a problem to me.
Speaker 2:But in my personal opinion, the actions of Tyler Perry and Monique during a moment of remembrance of the great Angie Stone illustrates the complexities of public behavior during times of loss. Their decisions to address personal matters in a space meant for mourning were misguided. Moving forward, it is crucial for public figures to reflect on their actions and consider how they can contribute to a respectful and supportive environment during memorials by focusing on the positive aspects of the deceased's life and legacy. Tyler, not where the money at Doing this can ensure that such gatherings remain meaningful and impactful to all its attendees, and in this case, whether or not no, you could attend.
Speaker 2:But if you were a fan, friend, a family member or anything although Monique wants that apology from Tyler that he promised, she may not get it in the way that she wants it, but there's no excuse for putting personal warrants ahead of respect for someone else's morning of remembrance. Because you feel like that, it's a perfect time for you to show your ass again, because Monique has showed her ass over and over again and it's not to say that people don't like her. But damn, monique, you having problems with your own family and your own son and you keep harping on Tyler instead of fixing the things in your life that can be fixed. But that's all that I have for today. Remember? You can find in the artist music hustle with blind intelligence on all podcasts and platforms.
